Student at Premier High School Wins Power Lifting World Championship

As the Power Lifting World Championships Competition came to a close in Corpus Christi this weekend the hopes and dreams of Premier High School Junior Barry Foster were realized. Foster won First Place in the completion in the 16 & 17 year old division.

Foster has been power lifting for a year and a half and has won the state championship seven times prior to the World Competition. This competition was by invitation only and this was the first time Foster had been invited to participate.

“I could not have done this without God’s help and the support of my family and the staff here at Premier,” stated Foster when asked about the competition. He also thanked his coach, Robert Jackson.

Foster is hopeful that his success in Power Lifting will help him to secure a college scholarship.

“Barry is a delightful young man who aspires to do well in anything that he undertakes.  He let me know on Friday, that he was going to this Power Lifting competition in Corpus Christi and that he was going to go and win it.  Well, he did just that!” said Dahlia Sanchez, the Campus Director at Premier High School.

When asked what message he would like to send to other students who were working toward athletic or scholastic goals Foster said “After a year and a half of hard work and dedication, no parties, no drinking , and staying out of trouble, it is good to know the sacrificing will make you successful.”

“Barry has a true competitive spirit and he is well disciplined. When he makes up his mind to do something, he sets out to do it. As his campus director, I’m very proud of his academic and extra curricular accomplishments this year.  He is a true Premier student with the right attitude, stated Sanchez.

Fosters next competition will be at the World Association of Bench and Dead Lifters in November and it will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada. He will get the opportunity to defend his title at the World Championships next year.

Once in college Foster will move up to compete with USA Power Lifting, which is open only to college students.
