For the second consecutive year, students from Premier High School of North Austin participated in a Junior Achievement Job Shadow Day at the AT&T Corporate Office on Feb. 24.

Junior Achievement is a national organization whose purpose is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business, and economics in order to improve the quality of their lives. This year, students from the Media Arts Academy accompanied the PHS students on their field trip in order to document the day’s events.

“On the Job Shadow, PHS students had an opportunity to team up with AT&T employees to experience the world of work firsthand,” said Amanda Z. Marlin, Campus Director at PHS North Austin.

Students also participated in a live video conference with other high school campuses from as far away as St. Louis and Japan.

Ralph de la Vega, the current CEO of AT&T, was present via video phone. He shared his inspirational story of arriving in the United States as a Cuban immigrant and working to rise to his current position. Vega stressed the importance of hard work and focusing on your dreams in order to overcome obstacles and achieve success.

The Media Arts students, under the direction of their teacher, Michael Lopez, recorded their experience during the Job Shadow Day and created a film that will be made available to the local office of Junior Achievement for posting on their website.
